Welcome to RAGOM, Tacy! Tacy is a mellow, 10-year-old, purebred Golden Retriever. She is a gorgeous dark red color and is a little bit gray in the face. She is sporting a short haircut at the moment, so we cannot wait to see how beautiful her long red coat will be! Tacy weighs 82 pounds and has large feet, but she is so calm that she does not seem that big. You may notice in her photos that she has a mole on her right cheek (think Marilyn Monroe and Cindy Crawford...). Tacy has one goal in life, and that is to be pet as much as possible! She wants her head pet and she will nudge you or give you the Golden paw to let you know! She is really a senior sweetheart.

Tacy lived with the same family for 10 years and was an outside dog. She was surrendered to RAGOM because her owners wanted her to enjoy her senior years indoors with a family that does not travel as much. Tacy is house trained and easily adjusted to living indoors with us. She has been with us for 3 weeks now and has been such an easy dog to have around! It took her a couple of days to warm up to our resident dog, but now they are buds and will play occasionally. She has done well with other dogs she has met, but she would do best with other mellow, relaxed dogs that will not try to play constantly. She has been around our nieces that are 10 years old and 6 months old and has done well with both. We have not tested her with cats, but she did smell some in kennels at the vet and did not seem overly interested.

Tacy walks well on a leash with a regular collar; she shows interest in squirrels and rabbits, but does not pull much when she sees them. She does great in a kennel and would also be fine with free roam. We both work full time, so she is used to us being gone for 8 hours a day. She is not destructive. She does get a little nervous with thunderstorms, but so far, she has just come to us to comfort her when she hears thunder. She sleeps in a dog bed or people bed in our room.

Tacy appeared healthy at her first vet visit aside from some cataracts, but unfortunately her heartworm test came back positive. She also tested positive for Lyme disease. It is unknown whether she had Lyme disease in the past or a current infection, so the vet tested her kidneys to see if she has kidney damage from the Lyme disease. Her urine protein levels were high, but her other kidney levels and bloodwork were fine. She has been started on a medication once a day to help the kidneys from losing too much protein. She has been started on an antibiotic as well, which is used to treat Lyme disease and is also a part of the heartworm treatment regimen. Tacy’s vet bills are already starting to add up, so please consider sponsoring her and helping her get through these expensive treatments. You can also participate in our big fundraising event coming up: Goldzilla! Goldzilla is Sunday, September 14th, at Long Lake Regional Park in New Brighton. Visit goldzilla.ragom.org to learn more about the event and donate! Your donations help dogs like Tacy get the medical treatment they need.

On September 1st, we had to help our sweet Tacy cross the Rainbow Bridge. After a year long battle with oral melanoma, we knew that life was getting too hard for her. We adopted Tacy as a senior knowing our time with her could be short, but we will never regret our decision. She was a great dog and we will always remember her persistent nudging for pets and her love of people and tennis balls. She was also a great foster sister to other dogs that we fostered through RAGOM. We will always miss her and are grateful to have had her in our life for a little over two years.

October 17, 2015: Happy Adoptiversary to our sweet Tacy! A year ago today, she officially became part of our family after fostering her for a few months and falling in love with her. She used to just love pets on the head, but now she's an 86 lb. snuggle bug. She loves car rides, tennis balls, short walks, food, big bowls of water, and nudging us 100 times a day. She's 11 years old, but heartworm treatment, kidney disease, and melanoma haven't slowed her down. We are so glad she puts up with us because we love her to pieces! Thank you RAGOM for helping out this sweet old gal!

Well, it has been quite a while since we updated. First and foremost, thank you, Barry Kachinsky, for the icon from Goldzilla! We so appreciate it and Tacy feels so special! Tacy has received her 3 heartworm injections and is taking it easy and recovering from this lengthy and painful treatment. We can tell she does not feel good, but she has been such a trooper. She is so calm and sweet and cute that we decided we could not let her go! We have decided to adopt her and she has already brought so much happiness to our family. Thank you, RAGOM, for taking in this special girl and giving her a chance to be healthy again and enjoy her senior years!

Tacy is so thrilled she has a sponsor! Thank you, Sara D., for sponsoring this sweet girl! Tacy has her first heartworm injection scheduled for September 15th and having a sponsor will definitely help RAGOM pay for this expensive treatment and her other vet bills that are adding up quickly. Thank you again!

Tacy was able to spend the Labor Day weekend at the lake and she seemed to really enjoy it. She was not interested in swimming, but she loved fishing and all the good smells at the lake. Fishing is great, but if you can fish and pet Tacy at the same time, she likes that even more! Watch your hook, though, because she is a minnow muncher! She spent the weekend in a small cabin with our resident dog, two other dogs, and our 7-month-old nieces, and she did great with everyone. She does fine with other dogs, but is much more interested in people. She rides really well in the car; it was a 5-hour drive to the lake each way and she did not seem to mind. She was quite exhausted after 3 days of activity and slept most of the drive home!

It stormed again last night and she jumped in bed with us at the first sound of thunder and I felt her jump a couple other times with loud thunder, but she did fine if she was snuggling. She is really an easy, sweet girl to have around; we have quickly fallen in love with her!

To all the RAGOM fans out there...

Goldzilla is almost here, September 14th, and we just want to let you know about something very special happening the day of the event. There will be a large board (near the baseball backstop) with all the pictures of available dogs. You can help by purchasing a foster paw print sticker at the merchandising tent in increments of $10, $25, $50, and $100. Once purchased, you will place the paw print sticker next to the picture of the dog you’d like to support. You will also have the opportunity to write that particular dog a note, which will be posted the dog’s page after the event. This is a great way to show support for RAGOM and a particular dog that may be pulling at your heartstrings. Please consider stopping by the merchandise tent to purchase a Foster Fan Board paw print while at Goldzilla.
