Jade has been recovering from her surgery and is doing well. The best news is that all the tumors removed are benign and no follow up is expected to be needed! Yeah! She does have to eat soft food for about a week and then we will transition her back to the hard dog food. She has a few follow up appointments in the next week to remove stitches and make sure everything is healing well. Jade is already spayed, UTD on all vaccinations, and the parasites she had initially have been treated and resolved.
Jade is always seeking human attention. She loves to cuddle, be where the humans are, but prefers it to be relatively quiet inside. She does get nervous when there are unexpected noises, but recovers from quickly. We use a vacuum and blender daily in our house and while the noises aren’t her favorites, she doesn’t get extremely scared. She casually makes the choice to leave the room, but that is about it. Jade has discovered a new place to relax in our kitchen – in a corner space where a cabinet has been removed and we haven’t fixed yet. She lays in there when we cook dinner. I think she is waiting for extra tidbits of food to fall.

Jade continues to follow each of us around, especially our kids. It is typical that she will paw at them for attention and if ignored, she will basically stand right over the top of their laps waiting for them to notice her. It is actually quite difficult to get a picture of her without our kids in the picture. She is always by them! She also likes to be near to Foster Mom and Foster Dad and makes sure we know she wants attention. Jade has met company well that has come over to our house and again, seeks attention even when she is nervous. When Jade is nervous or unsure, we see her back legs actually shake a bit. This happened a lot the first few days and now we don’t see it very often, but still on occasion.

Jade really wants to be noticed. J
Jade is getting along well with our other two dogs, but will give the occasional warning growl if she doesn’t like them in her face or if they are too close. She has been starting to collect some toys and once she has them, she really doesn’t want to share. However, once she gets up and walks away, she is fine with the other dogs taking the toys. Jade also will walk up to our other dogs and paw at them, just like she does to us, for attention. It is priceless. It looks like she is waiting for them to start petting her.

Jade has some very playful moments, even when she has been sore from her surgery. She will start rubbing her head and shoulders on the carpet, while wagging her tail up high. I keep waiting for the full roll to happen indoors, but I haven’t seen it yet. However, I know it will come soon!
Jade walks great on a leash outside. We currently do not have a fenced in yard, so Jade goes outside with us on a leash. She always does her business that way, but likes it best when we turn away from her. I think she is shy. She hasn’t had any accidents in the week she has been her. Jade has even gone to the door on her own to show us she needs to go outside. Some great friends of ours have a fenced in yard and they graciously let us use it for our dogs. Jade explored their yard tentatively the first time she was there and we discovered she likes to dig in the dirt a bit. At first we thought it was pretty funny, but as the hole got bigger, we decided we better intervene. Jade stopped digging with us just saying “no Jade” in a normal voice. She self corrects very easily!
Jade needs:
- a family who will love her, be patient as she comes out of her shell, and help her to continue to learn about how great living indoors is and all the good things that come along with it
- another calmer medium to large dog in the residence, preferably one that is confident to lead her, but also needs to know how to read and respect dog signals so Jade can have her space when she needs it
- a fenced in area is preferred, although may become optional as we learn more about her, for Jade to play, run and be completely relaxed
- a family….could be with kids very near or over 10 years old, a couple or a single person
- a household that isn’t completely loud and chaotic – she handles moments well, but it would stress her out if it was crazy most of the time
If Jade sounds like a good fit for your family and you would like to meet her, contact your placement advisor. If you are looking for an older, healthy, calmer dog, who seems as though she still has some spunk she wants to start to show, Jade is for you!
