Baxter (Newton 06-006)

Profile

1/7/06: Have you ever seen anything quite this cute? Newton’s mom was a Flat-Coated/Golden Retriever mix and dad was a Golden Retriever. He, obviously, takes after his dad. These puppies just came to RAGOM today and they won’t last long. I’m feeling pretty lucky that we get to enjoy him for now.

From Baxter's (fka Newton) forever family...

Baxter is doing very well...spoiled rotten (: We couldn't have asked for a better dog. He's very gentle but a great watchdog. Playful but not rough. He's beautiful with his fluffy Chow tail and black spotted tongue. He hates the water, but loves to sit on the edge of it. It must be the Chow in him. He also loves to sit on our laps. He's just part of the family. We have two kids now and he is great with them!! He gets a walk in everyday and sleeps in our bed every night. I think your Newfs trained him in well.

Newton met some wonderful people today that made his heart race. He was so cute with them and he played and played. They seemed to like him, too. So, we will wait and see. Newton is doing wonderfully! He is eating and gaining weight; his play time is longer and longer now. Some days I think it is far too long; I cannot work when he is pestering the 3 resident Newfs.

I have added a couple of picture – these are of Newton’s favorite sleeping positions - right next to one of the BIG Newfs, all in the hair or on a tail.

Newton is doing well on potty training and knows his name pretty well. If he does not come by his name I whistle a certain way and he comes running. Wish our Newton luck and we will update you soon. Newton will go to the vet on Wednesday for the next set of shots and for the all clear to go to his new home!

Send placementatragom [dot] org a note if you would like to meet this very special boy. Boy, does he like to cuddle with you!

Newton had his check-up today and I have to tell you I was pretty worried. Yesterday he seemed to have slept the day away and I just could not get him up to play or eat. So we talked at length to the vet about that. She feels because he is so small and tiny he really needs to get more food in him. He only weighed 5.5 pounds this morning; she felt he should be closer to 8 or 9. No wonder he just wants to sleep! So we are going to work really hard on getting some pounds on before we go back to the vet on the 25th of January.

Otherwise Newton is in great health and as soon as we get him to gain some weight he can be adopted out. So if your family is willing to hold and cuddle this little boy, you may be the family he is looking for. Newton definitely needs a family that will give him lots of attention because he is constantly searching someone out to get a few pats, kisses and hugs from. But then he goes to sleep knowing he is safe and sound.

If you are interested in this very special, preciously little boy, email placementatragom [dot] org and we can meet.

Newton has been doing pretty well. However, his first foster mom and I both made the decision that if he was not eating I would bring him to the vet for another round of IV's. Instead the vet sent me home with IV solution and showed me how to do it subcutaneously so I can give it to both Newton and Ebony if she needs it. I cannot believe the huge improvement Newton had after his first dose this morning.

Newton actually played for 40 minutes this afternoon with Ebony and Elway and now has been out like a light. We also added a few more meds to his daily plan just to help the stomach settle and to make sure he fights off all infections. Ebony will get the same course of meds.

My gut says we are over the worst of it and we have been told that if I can get a stool sample from Newton we can go ahead and send it to a lab for confirmation if it was/is Parvo. So say a prayer that I can get one and we can get this confirmed that it is NOT Parvo and more or less a flu bug that was caught in the kennel.

If you are interested in our wonderful little (5 lbs. 2 oz.) boy, let placement know and when he is ready for a meet and greet you can be on the top of the list!
