Through the miracles of RAGOM, this youngster survived a very sad beginning and moved on to a new, bright beginning for the rest of his life: a warm and loving home with some of the best parents you can have.
Sooner is also inheriting a new big Golden brother, Tank. Tank will be taking good care of his new little brother and guiding him.
He will reside in a beautiful lake area where he can run and have fun and yes, go on pontoon rides with new brother on the lake to boot! I also know Sooner will definitely charm his "parents"!
I am blessed to volunteer with such an outstanding rescue group and other super volunteers who make this happen, not to mention the WONDERFUL families and Goldens I get to meet! Sooner, little buddy, we love you.
Sooner, you struck GOLD today! Bless you Rosemary & Mark, you are the best!

Update on our cutie pie, Sooner. He had a very productive week last week. He went to the groomer, where he did awesome, and got neutered—all of which went well and now we have that behind us.
He has healed well. Sooner has gotten very comfortable here and really knows the routine. He has a good appetite, is doing great on the housetraining, and enjoys lounging by the fireplace. With this relentless winter, the thing to do!
He is a happy boy and has good manners…except maybe the jumping up once in a while for lovin’! No barking. Would he counter surf, yup! He does listen very well, however. But as with all of them, he has nose for grub! Thank goodness he loves carrots! Sooner loves his "brother" Bridger and they are great together.
Sooner got the hang of jumping up in our bed and snuggling up there. He has slept with us at night for a few hours as well. This is the very first foster I have had this with. We never invite a dog to jump in bed nor on furniture (that is the adoptive home’s choice), but oh, what a sweetheart. Sooner is ready for his forever home!

I would like to introduce “Sooner,” a wonderful little Golden mix who arrived with 12 other dogs from an unfortunate hoarding case in the state of Oklahoma. This was a major undertaking for RAGOM and its great “village” of volunteers.
Moving these dogs from a sad situation to foster homes requires a great deal of coordination and hard work. Reaching out and helping a struggling person—and thus helping these pups—shows how dedicated our volunteers are. I am proud to be one small helper in this undertaking. RAGOM is here to help rescue and rehome such dogs in need.
We decided to call our boy Sooner because he came from Oklahoma. Sooner is a petite little guy (only 31 pounds) with a BIG heart. Although he’s only been in our home for a few days, he has fit in with us and our pack very well. He is a little shy but considering his long road, he’s doing just great.
This is what I can share so far:
- He is good with other dogs of which we have two—a 10-year-old Corgi (Eddie) and an 8-month-old Goldendoodle (Bridger)—and he is good with our senior cat (Lexi). Sooner has gotten along great with all of them. He remains uncertain as to just what a cat is but no issues at all.
- Considering these dogs had lived together as a pack, made their very long journey to RAGOM together, and have now been separated, Sooner would be best in a home with another dog, a pal—another furry family member to comfort him and to play with and help him grow and build confidence.
- We have not heard any barking.
- Sooner loves toys and rubber bones, and oh boy, Kongs with peanut butter inside!
- The potty training is going fine so far. He has had diarrhea from all his stress and changes in his life, but is really improving now. Nothing meds cannot fix.
- He did meet out 1.5-year-old grandson and he really enjoyed him. He seems well rounded for this age. But because Sooner is very young and active and could be a flight risk, a home with children older than 10 would be best.
It was very interesting to watch Sooner navigate around in our backyard (fenced of course) in this DEEP snow. I am sure he didn’t really experience this down south! He prances through and discovered you can EAT it too! However, his little feet get cold easily in this difficult winter.
We can tell Sooner will be a great play and snuggle companion and a wonderful family dog ready to learn just what the real world can be.
