Hi, my name is Biscuit, and I am a very happy, loveable, seven-month-old puppy. My first family bought me at a pet store chain so I almost certainly came from a puppy mill. According to my pedigre my mother and father were half-brother and half-sister. This, again, seems to point to my puppy-mill origins -- a lack of thought about breeding and any health concerns that it may cause. I was surrendered because my family didn't want to deal with my medical problems. I have very bad hips. I love to play with other dogs, but I have to wait for them to come to me because my hips are not good enough to stand and play, I mostly just lay down and play. I live on a lake, which most of you know is the best home for a dog, but I'm not strong enough to wade in the water because the littlest wave will knock me over. I am so lucky to be fostered by Ragom, because they have promised to make me feel better so I can someday experience the fun of being a real dog and run and play like the other dogs do. I am going to the vet soon and will let you know what they can do about my hips, but until then I just want to play as best I can and give snuggle kisses to my foster mom.

Boy she must be the cutest, sweetest dog around! A very nice family with a 8 year old daughter came by on Sunday to see Biscuit and see if they wanted to wait for her until her other hip was repaired. It was love at first sight and they wanted her now ... and Biscuit loved their daughter too! They are willing to follow through with her physical therapy and next surgery. Once again we want to thank Linda for sponsoring Biscuit, RAGOM could sure use the help with this little girl's expenses. Also thanks again to Dr Lara for helping this girl achieve a pain free life. We sure will miss you Biscuit!

Biscuit here -- I just wanted to thank Linda for sponsoring me. I know I am costing RAGOM lots of money; it's good to know someone is helping. I am sending her a great big wet kiss. I am doing oh so much better after my surgery and soon hope to be running and playing with the rest of the bunch. Things are still a little shaky on these legs of mine, last night I fell in the lake ... a surprise but still refreshing! They tell me a little swimming would be good for me. If everything goes as planned the nice Dr. said I could have my second hip done on September 6th. I am working really hard at getting my right leg to work like it should, but it is still a little sore. By night time I am ready to just cuddle up with mom and watch some TV.

After having hip surgery (Femoral Head Ostectomy or FHO) a week ago Biscuit is doing so much better that she went to the Uptown Art Fair on Saturday. She met lots of wonderful people, and some great dogs too! Biscuit was pretty tired by the end of the day so most visitors found her lying down. She got up to greet all children but she stayed down for the adults. If she didn't jump up to greet you it wasn't because she wasn't happy to see you, she was just tired. She'll be better next time. She can walk about 1/2 a mile before we have to take her home to rest. She is doing her exercises daily trying to get ready for her next hip to be fixed in September. She has to be walking on her right leg before they can do her left.   If  you have been considering sponsoring a RAGOM dog, now would be a great time. Biscuit's surgery and follow up care will add to the mounting vet bills, so we would welcome any sponsor for any amount.  Biscuit said she'd be happy to send a bunch of puppy kisses your way with a good long tail wag.  Biscuit has had severe dysplasia in both hips since she was very young, probably was born that way, and was in a lot of pain for many months. She is now on her way to being able to run and play without being in pain.  Doesn't get much better than that!!

Biscuit was surrendered because of her extremely bad hips. The owners just didn't want to deal with the veterinarian's diagnosis that without surgery Biscuit could not live a pain free life.

We called the veterinarian down in Iowa that had taken the X-rays and he said, "I don't know how that dog even walks. If it wasn't for young, strong muscles and tendons, she wouldn't walk at all."

So RAGOM has had one of their veterinarians look them over and, after reading a survey that we completed about Biscuit's condition, it was decided that she needs FHO surgery. That's when they cut the ball off the top off the leg bone. Muscles and tendons hold things together and, after a couple of months, Biscuit should be able to run and play like other dogs without pain..

Surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, so we are looking forward to having this great little girl out of pain. Thank you RAGOM, we are so glad you are there for Biscuit and all the other Goldens!
