Brock 09-530

Profile

Heeeerrrre’s BROCK! Brock is a SWEET 6 yr old, PB, male Golden Retriever being fostered in Blaine, MN. He is UTD on all of his vaccinations, and is scheduled to be neutered on March 24, 2010. He is dark red in color with curly fur and weighs 60 pounds. He is micro chipped and AKC registered. Brock has lived outdoors in a kennel his entire life with Peaches (09-529) He has sired several litters and now has been welcomed into RAGOM to find his forever family. Brock is just the sweetest soul! We have had many Golden’s through the years and Brock has one of the mildest and sweet dispositions we have seen.

Brock is going through the learning process of being a house and family dog, but he is a smart boy and is catching on quickly. He gets along very well with our resident Golden, though he is a little jealous when we give the resident Golden affection. He does not chew anything inappropriately nor have we seen any signs of resource guarding. Brock is very good on the leash; we have taken many long walks with the Gentle Leader and Brock is enjoying the new smells, sights and sounds. It is really fun to see Brock discovering his “dog-ness.”

This morning as we finished our walk, Brock noticed a squirrel and perked up – like the Golden in the movie “Up.” Too cute for words. Brock has had one accident inside since we picked him up, but we are working with him on that. He is a great listener and will catch on. We’re also working with Brock on “sit,” “stay,” “off” and “down.” In the short week he has been with us, he has come a very long way. He is very eager to please. Brock has been very good in the kennel overnight after an anxious first night.

It is a big job learning how to be a house dog after years of living outside, but Brock is happily making the transition. The big galoot is sleeping at my feet as I write this – what a sweetheart.

Brock was a big hit at the RAGOM event at PetSmart in Maple Grove on Saturday, 3/20. He got along with everyone and made many new friends. He loves to ride in the car and was perfectly behaved during the ride to and from the event. A little later in the day, Brock demonstrated his retriever skills (he is quite adept) and was very attentive and responsive when told to “come.”

Here is a list of some things we would like to see for Brock’s forever home:

  1. Someone who is willing to continue Brock’s training to teach him the ropes; he learns quickly, so it won’t take much!
  2. Someone who is looking for a sweet boy who is always happy and enjoys being part of the family.
  3. Brock may not do well with cats – he has never experienced them. But he is great with kids and other dogs.
  4. Someone who will give Brock an active lifestyle of walks, retrieving, etc.
  5. Someone who does not mind being on the receptive end of A LOT of adoration. He truly loves his human.

This is a happy boy!

Updates

Wednesday, January 2, 2019

We helped Brock to the Rainbow Bridge on 12/31/18. He was 15 1/2 and still went on walks until a week before he passed. He would let us know if he wanted to go, usually once or twice a week. The walks were mostly around the block, but for a 15 year old dog, it must have felt like miles. He slowed down a lot this past month, but we were hoping to make it into the new year. He collapsed after coming in from outside and could not get back up.

He is once again the athlete he was. He is chasing the tennis balls and destroying them within 20 minutes. RIP !!

Hi,

Brock turned 14 in June. His back legs are a little stiff, but every morning he goes outside grabs his ball and rolls in the grass. WE will try and be at Goldzilla this Sunday.

Well it is time for another update and Brock is doing fine. He has learned a few manners, but still wants to jump up on people when he thinks he is being ignored. We did find out the he does love the water and I'm sure he can not wait for summer to be here. Brock is a cuddle bug and would love nothing more to be in your lap all the time.

Champ is doing great. He loves to run. The dog park is his favorite spot. As we get closer to the park, he starts barking and pacing trying to tell me to hurry up. It takes him a little while to warm up to people. He is a big tease, I will just let you think you can pet me and I will run away just as you get a finger length away. Champ always wants to lay close to you, but not on top of you.

From Brock's forever family...

We adopted Brock in April. We thought Champ needed a buddy to keep him busy during the day. Within a day, they were looking for one another and giving each other a lick.

Brock needs to make sure the counters are clear or he will decide to help. The first month we lost 3 loafs of breads and couple pairs of shoes. He loves tennis balls and can take them apart in 20 minutes. He loves to chew, he gets bored if people are not around, so he needs something to keep him busy during the day. Brock has settled in nicely and has found his spot in the family.
