Megan is a thirteen-year-and-four-month-old purebred female Golden Retriever. She is a beautiful dark gold color with white on her senior face. She is aging quite gracefully. Megan lived in northern Minnesota before coming to RAGOM. Her owner became ill and gave her to his sister who works long hours and she surrendered Megan to RAGOM so she could live a Golden Life.

Megan is a very sweet girl who loves to snuggle and be petted. She loves everyone and wants to be best friends. Megan loves rawhide bones and toys; she carries them around all the time! Megan also loves other dogs and plays with our nine-year-old resident Basset Hound. She loves to sleep in bed with her humans and be a couch potato. Megan still likes to play; she's good at fetching, but not so good at bringing it back. At her age, she feels she has the right not to give it up! Can't blame her, can you? Megan also loves car rides.

Megan went to the vet last Tuesday and had full blood work done and got updated on all her vaccines. Some of her lab results were a little high, but consistent for her age. Megan has a very large tumor by her rectum and is scheduled for surgery on February 17th to have it removed. She does have some muscle loss and a little cloudiness in her eyes, but is in good shape for her age.

Our beloved Maggie left this earth on August 1st, 2016. Maggie was our foster and we fell in love with her and adopted her. Maggie had a tumor on her kidney and had the tumor and kidney removed and the surgery was successful. This surgery gave her over one more year of a golden life. On August 1, 2016 our Maggie's remaining kidney failed her and she crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She would have been 15 this October. We miss her so much!

Hi, everyone! It's me, Maggie! Yup, you heard me right, my name is now Maggie! My foster mom and dad adopted me and changed my name to Maggie. I love my new name and I love my mommy and daddy! I heard my mommy and daddy talk and they said they love me so much and I'm so cute, sweet, and adorable. On the 4th of July when everyone in the USA was celebrating, we celebrated my adoption! Can you believe it? I have a forever home with mommy, a daddy, and a Bassett Hound brother who I get to play with! I am a lucky dog and my parents are very lucky to have me!

I had to go to the vet again a week ago and my kidney function labs were much better. I get a special kind of food that is supposed to help my kidneys and I guess it's working! I have to stay healthy so I can live a Golden Life. Thank you, RAGOM, for everything you have done to make me better and find a loving home. I also want to thank all you wonderful people who have sponsored me in the last five months. I am so happy!

Love,

Your friend Maggie

A lot has happened since Megan's last update. She had an ultrasound which showed the mass she had was operable. On May 20th, she had surgery to remove a tumor which was over two pounds. It was attached to her left kidney and uterus. The kidney, uterus, and tumor were all removed successfully. Megan handled the surgery well and was very happy to come back home the following day. Poor girl had a very long incision and was on two different pain medications and an antibiotic which she took willingly in food. She is now done with her medications and is getting stronger every day. Megan is back to short walks which she loves, but she gets tired easily. This Wednesday, she will get her stitches removed and have labs done to check on her kidney function. The kidney which was removed was no longer working because of the tumor and her doctor is very optimistic that she will do fine with one kidney.

In less than four months, Megan has had two surgeries; she is one tough cookie! Through all of this, she remains to be a sweet angel. She is full of love and enjoys life!

Lucky Megan has another fan who has donated to her care. The donator is anonymous. Megan and I would like to thank you for your support; it is greatly appreciated!

Hi, everyone! It's me, Megan! I was suppose to have surgery yesterday to be spayed, but it didn't happen. I went to the clinic early in the morning, and my nice tech friends started an IV and were getting me ready when they got a call from my doctor. My doctor friend fell and hurt her back and couldn't do my surgery. I am very sorry my friend got hurt, but I was very happy to go home. My surgery is now scheduled for next Tuesday.

Megan's surgery went very well and she got to come home the very same day. She seems more comfortable now that the tumor is gone. Yesterday, Megan had her stitches removed and her vet was very happy with the healing process. We got great news! Her pathology report showed NO cancer; we are just thrilled! She had her microchip implanted yesterday and is up-to-date on everything!

Megan is a real senior sweetheart and loves everyone she meets. I have a grooming business in my home and she is like the welcome wagon! She gets so excited whenever someone comes; I think she figures everyone is her best friend and they should be coming to her house to pet her. She loves other dogs and wants to play; she's pretty spunky for being over 13 years old. Megan and our resident dog, Henry, the Basset Hound, sometimes play and it's quite hilarious. They look like the odd couple!

Megan found out she really loves to shop with her foster dad. Of course, she knows she has him wrapped around her paws and she came home with a new toy and, of course, raw hides. She absolutely loves raw hides and usually has one in her mouth, not always chewing it, but carrying it around so she doesn't lose it. Her new toy, a stuffed pheasant, didn't last too long; she amputated the wings, legs, and then went for the stuffing. They just don't make dog toys sturdy enough, but she sure had fun! Megan also loves to go for car rides; she sits so nicely and looks likes she's really taking in all that's going on around her. Megan loves to sleep in bed at night and snuggle; during the day, she will nap on the couch or on one of the many dog beds we have in our home. She is 55 pounds, but many times will curl up in one of our small dog beds. She's such a clown!

Lucky Megan had a Valentine sponsor. Thank You, Jodi, for loving Megan and being her sponsor!
