Sunshine is a healthy five-year old female Golden Retriever mix. She is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, and is being given heartworm preventative and Frontline treatments monthly. She has an excellent personality, is well-trained and loyal. She does not jump on people or countersurf for food. She takes treats gently and knows how to sit, roll over, come, and shake with both left and front paw. She loves walks and is good on a leash, basically ignoring dogs that pass by. She shows interest in squirrels, but hasn't pulled on the leash to try to chase them. When not walking, and when her people are not home, she prefers taking a nap on the couch or bed. When you are in bed, she will ask first, before hopping up and laying at the foot of the bed. She has been a quiet dog with us, never barking but occasionally whining if she wants inside or in the bedroom if the door is shut. She is house trained and never chews on anything. She loves to be petted and will do the nose nudge to ask for affection.

Sunshine's fur and ears are very soft. Because she was a stray from Kentucky and was in a shelter or foster home briefly there, we aren't sure if her fur has been cut or if this is its natural length. Rescue dog's coats generally become thicker and shinier when they are fed a proper diet of high quality dog food. She has a double coat and does shed. She is sturdily built and somewhat overweight (64 pounds), so we are guessing that she wasn't stray for very long. Sunshine acts like a herding dog, and may be part Corgi ~ we have three Golden Retrievers, and if they are excited, running to retrieve the ball, she will chase after and nip at them. She has had arguments with resident Golden Retrievers over space, and needs to be shown that you are the one in control, not her. If her forever family has children, they should be 10 years old or older and taught respectful behavior toward Sunshine. Visiting children under 10 years of age need to be supervised.

Sunshine will make an absolutely wonderful addition to a family who meets her requirements to be happy and safe. Contact your placement advisor if you would like more information.
