In addition to LOVE this dog has the following requirements:
Entered Foster Care Fence Kid Friendly Another Dog Cat Friendly
 March 21, 2014  Optional 10+   Required Yes
This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

Jade is a 10yo intact PB GR that weighs approx 80 lbs. Jade is a retiring breeder girl and has lived outdoors and never been in a car, however is well socialized with other dogs and people.  The SO described as a typical Golden with a gentle and loving personality.

Jade tolerated her first car rides and she has a great spirit.  She met the two resident dogs without any real problems and within a few hours was exploring the house.  That is when we had a few issues.  She craves human attention and plopped herself down at my feet and leaned in for more attention.  I thought this was all well and good until my resident came over for a little of the action.  Jade got pretty jealous and growled quietly.  At one point she actually snapped at the resident.

With a few suggestions from some other RAGOM volunteers I realized I gave Jade too much freedom too soon.  I started working with a crate and the dog bed she claimed as her own.  I learned quickly to manage the interaction of the dogs and things have smoothed out quite a bit.

She has had her first bath and she has let me clean her ears.  We still have some work to do on both fronts but we are making progress.  The crate training is also helping with the potty training.  Honestly I think she is going to catch on pretty quickly.

Later this week she will have her first vet appointment and then we will schedule her spay surgery.  This girl deserves a good long retirement on a comfy bed.

Dear RAGOM,

With a heavy heart we wish to share that Jade 14-069 crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 11/30/16 at the same time as her adoptive brother Spice (Scotty) 15-299 who had also recently became ill. Jade was 12 years old and shared the last 3 1/2 years with us. She had a difficult first 9 nears of her life as a puppy mill breeder dog, but came such a long way in the time with us. She loved to be petted and often did the classic 'Golden paw move' when she wanted attention. She would even go up to new people who visited our house and ask for a friendly pat. She began having symptoms of excessive thirst and urination this fall which turned out to be a brain tumor that has spread to her lungs. We were so lucky to have her in our lives the last few years. She will be dearly missed.

Jade continues to live a happy life in her forever home leaving behind her puppy mill days.  Thunderstorms are her major issue.  She enjoys her time with her to adoptive brothers.  She celebrated her 12th birthday back in May.  One of the pictures shows her on her first trolley ride at Lake Harriet.

Jade is now eleven and a very beautiful girl.  We joke that she is the Farrah Fawcett of Golden Retrievers, because her coat is so luxurious.  She is as loving and sweet as ever, and she even cuddles up to new people!  She and her brothers, Rufus and Skipper, enjoy hanging out together and taking up as much floor space as they can.  Jade also considers the couch her own, and even sits there during Bridge parties, when she is not nudging the ladies for attention.  Jade, Rufus and Skipper are looking forward to Goldzilla this year.  See you there!

I lost track how long it has been since I sent an update on Jade, so sorry for the delay.

She has been a member of our family now for over seven months and continues to make wonderful progress leaving her breeding dog days behind her.  She has mastered the commands of come, sit and shake, does well with car rides and has certainly perfected the art of sleeping on the furniture.

She took her first vacation joining us for a week up on the North Shore.  So I have included several pictures from her trip.  As you can see she wasn't very comfortable with going into the lake.  But otherwise she really enjoyed being out on long walks and spending time with us.  And the last picture is Jade wishing everyone a happy new year.

It has been over a month since the last update, so I want to share the great progress that Jade is making.

She now gladly eats her meals in the kitchen with little worry about others in the room.  She is also finishing her food faster then our other RAGOM Golden Rufus.  Initially mealtime with her was a prolonged experience that often took enhancement of the food to get her to finish it all.  Now she just gobbles her food down like a "normal" dog.

Storms are still an issue but with various products they have been manageable.   We will see how she gets through the rest of the Fourth of July holiday.

Taking walks on leash have greatly improved, in fact she took her first walk all the way around Lake Harriet yesterday and did very well.  Last weekend we took her to Pet-A-Palooza and she got to visit the RAGOM booth.  All of the people made it a little scary for Jade but she did remarkably well.  Once she was introduced to people she really enjoyed getting petted by them.

Jade and Rufus continued to get along very well.  Rufus has been a good teacher for her.   You can see in the pictures that they sleep right next to each other, and guard the house together.  That is Jade on the couch looking out the window with Rufus down below.

And you can also see that she has the golden retriever maneuver of putting the paw up when she wants to be petted.  Jade is really learning that there are good people in the world.

Jade came to live with us about 10 days ago.  She is a former puppy mill mama who has gone through a lot in her life.  We are so lucky to have her as she is a wonderful addition to our family.  She and our other former ragom Golden, Rufus, are already best friends.  Rufus is showing her all the things that a dog should know.  And in our house that includes learning how to get up in bed and on the couch which Jade has already gladly adopted.  We are so happy she is already comfortable with these activities.

We have wonderful friends and neighbors who have helped her learn that there are good people in this world.

She sleeps well all through the night without any problems and again will occasionally get in bed.

Her visit with our vet this past week went very well as she got a clean bill of health and actually took treats from the doctor.

We want to thank all the people at RAGOM for helping her proceed on this journey. She still has a ways to go, but really has progressed well up to this point. Please enjoy the pictures of this beautiful girl and we will update you again in the near future.

Sometimes a village steps up to care for and adopt out one of our beautiful dogs, and for sweet Jade, this was definitely the case. Jade and I would like to extend our gratitude to the following volunteers, who helped her journey by temp fostering her, by transporting her, by caring for her while she had her short stint in boarding, and for donating a very much needed grooming session: Jen & Eric S. and family, Jeff C., Rhonda J., Mark C., Scott B., MJ  B., Sheila W., and Julia R. If I have forgotten anyone, I am very sorry, but know that Jade has not forgotten you.   Jade would also like to send her thanks to Bruce J., for honoring her by decorating the top of her page with a carrot!

No matter how long or how short a dog stays with us, they always take a piece of our hearts with them. We love them like our own, and want more than anything for them to find their perfect forever homes.  Jade has definitely found a home that I only could've dreamed of for her - she will be loved, cherished, and pampered for the rest of her beautiful life, thanks to now 5 time RAGOM adopters, Mark, Ruth, and of course Rufus V.   One of my favorite things for Jade is that Mark, Ruth, and Rufus do therapy work, and it is their desire that Jade join them, when she is ready. Our Jade loves children more than just about anything, and my heart just smiles thinking of all the joy that she will someday bring to those who need her.

Thank you V. family, for adopting the dog that was loved by a village. You've made many people in RAGOM-land smile today.  And speaking of smiles, look at lovely Jade, the very first morning in her new home. Have a wonderful life, precious girl - you certainly deserve it!

Hi, everyone!! This is Jade, and I'm just popping in to say that I've moved to my permanent foster home in Apple Valley, and am settling in just great!  Foster mom is one of the people that did my original pick-up back in March, and she can't believe how much I've grown and changed!  She sends a big "thank you" and I send lots of love to my former temp foster families - I miss you all!   Foster mom said I could include a couple of pictures of my favorite girl at my last house...she was very special to me, and I think you can see how much I love her in these pictures. In the second picture, she is saying "good bye" and "good luck" to me, and I am listening to her words of wisdom very carefully:

Foster mom will write a whole lot more, once she gets to know me better, but I did want everyone to know that I'm doing just fine, and I really like my new foster fur siblings, Belle, Bear, and Nugget.  They've been good friends to me so far, and are showing me the ropes around this place.  I particularly like Bear, as he has a beautiful white face like I do, and he lets me go for rambling walks with him every single day:

Foster mom and I would like you to know that I am making my premier appearance at a RAGOM event this upcoming Saturday 5/10 at the Chuck and Don's in Edina, from 2-4 pm!  I might be a little scared with all of the people that will be there, but I do like treats, and might just give you some tail wags if you bring one or two for me and all the other great RAGOM dogs that will be there! Hope to see you there!!

Love, Jade

Jade is doing FANTASTIC! She has recovered from her spay and all of her incisions are completely healed up from having her tumors removed. She also went for another “spa day” to get all cleaned up after having her stitches removed. She looks and smells beautiful! A special thank you to Dr. Lewison and Becky for donating their time and getting her all cleaned up!

When I think of Jade, the following words first come to mind: sweet, beautiful soul, love and adorable. I would also describe her as timid and unsure of everything around her, yet very brave and willing to step out and try new things. Jade will still have her tail tucked at times, especially when something new is going on or we go to a new place. However in our house, she more often has her tail wagging, a smile on her face and is pawing at us (or another dog) for attention. She will try to get attention from wherever she can get it.

Jade has started to really show her “retrieving” side. She likes to bring a shoe to a new location, carry around a box she took from the recycling can or walk around with a stuffed toy in her mouth. She destroys nothing and simply likes to carry things around. We laugh every time we see her do it because it is one more sign that she feels confident and comfortable in a house. As soon as we say her name or drop it, she instantly does and then continues on as though she did nothing. Silly girl!

Jade is getting along really well with our other two dogs and is starting to play with them a bit. We still haven’t seen her completely cut loose with them, but I know the moment is coming. We have seen her do the full back roll on the floor now. Way to go Jade!

If you are interested in meeting Jade, let you placement advisor know! She is all ready to find her perfect family!

Jade has been recovering from her surgery and is doing well.  The best news is that all the tumors removed are benign and no follow up is expected to be needed!  Yeah!  She does have to eat soft food for about a week and then we will transition her back to the hard dog food.  She has a few follow up appointments in the next week to remove stitches and make sure everything is healing well.  Jade is already spayed, UTD on all vaccinations, and the parasites she had initially have been treated and resolved.

Jade is always seeking human attention.  She loves to cuddle, be where the humans are, but prefers it to be relatively quiet inside.  She does get nervous when there are unexpected noises, but recovers from quickly.  We use a vacuum and blender daily in our house and while the noises aren’t her favorites, she doesn’t get extremely scared.  She casually makes the choice to leave the room, but that is about it.  Jade has discovered a new place to relax in our kitchen – in a corner space where a cabinet has been removed and we haven’t fixed yet.  She lays in there when we cook dinner.  I think she is waiting for extra tidbits of food to fall.

Jade sleeping in the cabinet while we cook supper.

Jade continues to follow each of us around, especially our kids.  It is typical that she will paw at them for attention and if ignored, she will basically stand right over the top of their laps waiting for them to notice her.  It is actually quite difficult to get a picture of her without our kids in the picture.  She is always by them!  She also likes to be near to Foster Mom and Foster Dad and makes sure we know she wants attention.   Jade has met company well that has come over to our house and again, seeks attention even when she is nervous.  When Jade is nervous or unsure, we see her back legs actually shake a bit.  This happened a lot the first few days and now we don’t see it very often, but still on occasion.

Jade playing farm with the kids.

Jade really wants to be noticed.  J

Jade is getting along well with our other two dogs, but will give the occasional warning growl if she doesn’t like them in her face or if they are too close.  She has been starting to collect some toys and once she has them, she really doesn’t want to share.  However, once she gets up and walks away, she is fine with the other dogs taking the toys.  Jade also will walk up to our other dogs and paw at them, just like she does to us, for attention.  It is priceless.  It looks like she is waiting for them to start petting her.

Jade has some very playful moments, even when she has been sore from her surgery.  She will start rubbing her head and shoulders on the carpet, while wagging her tail up high.  I keep waiting for the full roll to happen indoors, but I haven’t seen it yet.  However, I know it will come soon!

Jade walks great on a leash outside.  We currently do not have a fenced in yard, so Jade goes outside with us on a leash.  She always does her business that way, but likes it best when we turn away from her.  I think she is shy.  She hasn’t had any accidents in the week she has been her.  Jade has even gone to the door on her own to show us she needs to go outside.  Some great friends of ours have a fenced in yard and they graciously let us use it for our dogs.  Jade explored their yard tentatively the first time she was there and we discovered she likes to dig in the dirt a bit.  At first we thought it was pretty funny, but as the hole got bigger, we decided we better intervene.  Jade stopped digging with us just saying “no Jade” in a normal voice.  She self corrects very easily!

Jade needs:

  • a family who will love her, be patient as she comes out of her shell, and help her to continue to learn about how great living indoors is and all the good things that come along with it
  • another calmer medium to large dog in the residence, preferably one that is confident to lead her, but also needs to know how to read and respect dog signals so Jade can have her space when she needs it
  • a fenced in area is preferred, although may become optional as we learn more about her, for Jade to play, run and be completely relaxed
  • a family….could be with kids very near or over 10 years old, a couple or a single person
  • a household that isn’t completely loud and chaotic – she handles moments well, but it would stress her out if it was crazy most of the time

If Jade sounds like a good fit for your family and you would like to meet her, contact your placement advisor.  If you are looking for an older, healthy, calmer dog, who seems as though she still has some spunk she wants to start to show, Jade is for you!

First I would like to officially welcome Jade into RAGOM!  Jade stayed with her first wonderful foster dad for about 2 weeks.  Because his work schedule has changed, we have the wonderful privilege of fostering Jade for a bit.

Jade is a complete sweetheart.  When I picked up Jade, she rode in the backseat of the car and decided it would be much more comfortable to crawl up on my daughter’s lap, then to ride alone on the other side of the seat.  She let my daughter rub her head, scratch by her ears and pet her back.  In fact, anytime my daughter quit petting her, she put her paw up on her to let her know that she would very much still like some more loving and crawled right up by her face.  My daughter said, “Mom, what do I do?  I know I am not supposed to be in a dog’s face, but what if they come in mine?  I can’t go anywhere!”

She arrived at our house and met our resident dog Milo and foster dog Roxy 13-400 without any problems.  Roxy was a bit too much “in your face” for Jade and did get a small growl from her to back off, but Roxy listened and it was not a big deal.  Jade walked into our house with just a little hesitation and then explored most of the rooms she could get to. She is nervous and skittish, but not in an extreme way.  The first few days here her tail was tucked tight against her tummy, and we would see a tail wag anytime she was near our kids.

Jade is a sweet, retiring breeding mama and her owners wanted her to live the golden life and get all the special attention and love she deserves after all her hard work over the years.  I don’t believe Jade had been in a car or house much or at all prior to coming into RAGOM, yet she greets each of those new experience very bravely.  Some noises startle and scare her, while other noises don’t.  For example when we were on a walk, cars driving by or noises from a train didn’t seem to bother her much, but opening and closing a garbage can left her scurrying away.  We are very careful in our house to not make loud noises without first announcing them.  We actually say, “noise” first as a warning to her.  Then we give her lots of reassurance.

In our home, Jade continues to love our two kids, ages 6 and 9.  They are very dog savvy and know to not make quick sudden movements and to be calm around her.  She literally follows them everywhere!  I am guessing it is because they are smaller than adults.  I have noticed that if I call her, she will only come to me if I squat down or sit on the floor.  Then she comes every time.  If I am standing up, she will walk away from me.  Even though Jade loves kids, she does need to go to a home where the kids are calm and know how to act around dogs.  Movements need to be predictable for her, so she can continue to build trust and relax.

Jade had surgery yesterday to spay her and remove some mammary tumors.  Prior to her surgery, she had some blood work done, as well as radiographs.  The blood work looked good and the radiographs were great.  Her breeding days are officially over and she is quite excited about that.  She also had extensive dental work done, including some tooth extractions and many of the teeth had a bonded sealant applied.  This will help her remain healthy and she shouldn’t have any other dental problems.  There was a large piece of hard, black, smelly material removed from her mouth.  It was wedged between two back teeth.  The object could not be identified, but had been there for a very long time.  It caused irreparable damage to the two teeth it was lodged between and they also needed to be removed.  Jade also had 4 mammary tumors removed and sent it to determine if they are benign or malignant.  Please keep her in your prayers for good news and for fast healing!  Our local Lakeside Animal Companion Clinic performed the surgery and took great care of Jade afterwards.  We thank Dr. Lewison and her staff from the bottom of our hearts for making sure everything went well and that she received the best care!

We are so thankful for RAGOM and the care that they always provide to all the dogs they bring into the RAGOM family.  Thank you to all the donors and volunteers who support RAGOM.  They make these wonderful opportunities for dogs so they know nothing but love, once they come into RAGOM’s care.

Jade had her first vet appointment and she would like to set the record straight.  She does not weigh 80lbs.  She is a petite 62lbs.  She has a parasite issue and a couple of infected ears that we are treating.  She is a trooper and behaved very well in the car and while we were at the clinic.

Jade has had a much needed second bath.  She loves human attention so she tolerates bathing and brushing.  She even let me use the hair dryer on her.  She is very comfortable in her crate.  She is there when I am not home and overnight.  She has even retreated to the crate during the day.  Most of the time she sleeps by my feet when I am home.

Jade's appetite has improved.  The diarrhea has cleared up, and best of all we have gone almost a week without an accident in the house.

Jade is still a little jealous of my attention and will give a low growl to let the resident dogs know she is feeling threatened.  This situation has improved greatly and now only occurs when she is laying by my feet and the other dogs come looking for attention.

She is easy to lead with a regular leash.  She just needs a little enouragement.  Jade is showing signs of being a typical Golden Retriever who likes to play and run and roll in the snow.  And she has quite a bit of energy for a soon to be 10 year old.
