Diesel 07-004

Profile

1/8/07: Diesel is a 1½-year-old purebred Golden Retriever. He was surrendered to RAGOM because he kept escaping from his outdoor kennel and getting caught by Animal Control. Now that he’s an inside RAGOM dog, we haven’t had any trouble with escaping! Diesel is a very handsome dog with pretty red fur. He’s a bit on the short and stocky side (he fits in perfectly here!). He is neutered and up to date on all his vaccinations and was recently groomed.

We’ve only had Diesel for one day, but we know he is very friendly, likes other dogs, likes kids, rides very well in the car and would probably be fine with cats. His previous owner reported Diesel is housebroken, but we’ve had a few accidents here. I think he’s just a little nervous and confused by his change in surroundings. We haven’t had any accidents today, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he’s figured out the potty thing!

Diesel absolutely loves the snow (sorry, the pictures aren’t great but he’s just so cute outside) and apparently loves to swim as well. We will stop by the vet for a check up sometime this week, but otherwise he’s ready to find his forever family. Please send an email to placementatragom [dot] org if you’d like to discuss meeting this young guy!

January 2007 Diesel age 1 ½ sitting in a Ragom foster home chose us! We were blessed beyond words by his huge golden heart for over 10 years. Faithful companion – protector – and healer. With us he learned how to run, found out how great toys and treats were, found love and lots of hugs, found out a home on 2 acres is great dog space and he got a home that even had a lake cabin! Diesel loved every moment of his life and gave to others every moment of his far too short life.  He walked side-by-side with his master as he accompanied him thru the journey of cancer for 3 years, laid by his side and was with him the moment he left us to go to Heaven. Diesel was at the funeral visitation and for the last five years went to the cemetery where he laid on his master’s grave, always reluctant to leave, did this is even when snow covered the ground, he found his place to be with ‘him’ – his face was sad, tail didn’t wag, anxious to be there but slow to leave.

Now after Diesel has given me 5 years of healing companionship, being the family dog to the grandchildren, caring for those who he found on our walks that needed him, Iraq war veterans, neighbor struggling with severe depression, and small children needing a dog’s love, he kept on giving every day, until the day he crossed the rainbow bridge. Then on July 13th with a broken and grieving heart I had to send him off to be with his master, leaving me to grieve all over again, he was a love link and life link to my husband. His vet said Diesel was one special amazing dog, his all-time favorite! Diesel’s lab tests and X-rays ‘all normal’ – everyone (family – friends & neighbors all cried) were sad and broken to see this amazing life end. A neighbor said there had to be a zipper under him where a little person lived, he was so ‘human’ however the vet tech disagreed – stating Diesel was much kinder and nicer – loving and caring than any human could ever be! Rainbow bridge – Diesel you have your last journey and we cannot thank you enough for filling our lives with your amazing – love and dedication to all of us! Lots of tears fall every day – such a gift he was to us. Renee (Rich died 3/21/12) S.
